NLM Insurance Agency founder Shawn Morrison is a former Information Technology consultant with over 20 years of experience. The majority of his career was spent as an IT contractor. Shawn eventually decided to make a pivot and move into insurance where he aspires to help people understand how to use life insurance to their advantage.

Insurance is a SCAM!!
There are so many misconceptions about insurance as a whole. I get it; between folks having bad experiences with less ethical sales and not really understanding life insurance, I'd expect the craziness that you hear.
One of the reasons that I started this business is to help people and educate them on the benefits of life insurance. Let's be honest, nobody wants to spend money on something that "might happen". Human beings love CERTAINTY. We want a guarantee on just about everything when we're going to spend our hard earned money.
It's funny how we don't think twice about buying insurance for your car; but when we are faced with insurance on our lives, we somehow have negative thoughts or beliefs. I always ask clients this question..."So is your car more valuable than your life?" That's a bit harsh for some, but what I really want is for you to give more attention to it and how you think about it.
Insurance is a gargantuan industry. That can be intimidating. It doesn't have to be. And if you look a little closer, it may not seem like such a bad deal. Follow me for a minute... Someone comes to you with a deal and says...Will you invest money in my company? But I don't need all the money at once. You can pay me a little every month. In exchange, just because I know you want somewhat of a guarantee, if at any time the deal goes bad(i.e, tragedy happens and you pass), I'll pay you your full return on investment of let's say $50,000. It's not exactly like that but pretty close. The insurance company is assuming the risk of paying out a large sum of money without getting an equal investment from you. In exchange for them taking on this risk, you just have to keep paying them an agreed to amount of money. In the case where people cannot get coverage, you have to ask yourself..."would I take the risk of offering you a large sum of money KNOWING that there's no way that I'll make my money back?" For most, the answer is no; and that's why they deny coverage.
I believe that we have to create a strategy and use insurance to our advantage. We know that the companies are making lots of money. That's fine. The question becomes how do you take advantage of what's available. Get help and get educated on products that serve you. Come into the conversation of insurance with the intent of making it work for you, not against you. Like in Judo, use your opponent's momentum and strength against them.
So the question remains...do you still think insurance really is a scam?
